MA Programme: IRISH STUDIES
(Specializace Irská studia)

Director: Prof. Ondřej Pilný, PhD

Irish Studies runs as an autonomous programme (specializace Irská studia) within the MA in Anglophone Literatures and Cultures.

The programme consists of 4 basic and 5 elective courses for single-subject students. In addition, 6 courses must be taken from other special programmes. Joint-subject students have to take 3 basic and 2 elective courses plus 2 courses from another special programme. In addition to these, students are required to submit a graded paper in some of the courses – please consult the detailed description of the MA programme requirements. Basic courses are offered each academic year (either in the winter or the summer semester). The offer of elective courses varies each academic year.

Irish language courses are open to all students of English (BA and MA), and subject to availability also to students of other subjects. The best students of Irish are provided with scholarships for intensive summer courses run by Oideas Gael in Gleann Cholm Cille, Co. Donegal. A maximum of 2 Irish language courses may be taken as elective within the special programme.

Students of Irish Studies are encouraged to participate in Erasmus exchanges with universities in Ireland (Trinity College Dublin, National University of Ireland Galway, University College Cork, University of Limerick, Dublin City University) and other European countries (particularly the U.K.).
