We are delighted to announce that Dr Radvan Markus became the recipient of the 2023 American Conference for Irish Studies Prize for Books in the Irish Language. Awarding his monograph Carnabhal na Marbh: Cré na Cille agus Litríocht an Domhain (The Carnival of the Dead: Cré na Cille and World Literature), the jury noted in particular “the comprehensiveness of the discussion in terms of literary critical sources on Ó Cadhain, and the breadth of references and subjects integrated in the analysis”, including Máirtín Ó Cadhain’s affinity with James Joyce, Samuel Beckett and Flann O’Brien/Myles na gCopaleen, as well as Ó Cadhain’s position in the context of European and world literature.
