Seamus Heaney’s “Beacons at Bealtaine”

The Centre for Irish Studies congratulates Markéta Novotná, Maxmilián Filip and Stanislav Cincibuch, students of Mariana Machová’s poetry translation seminar, for their translation of Seamus Heaney’s villanelle “Beacons at Bealtaine” into Czech. Commissioned for the twentieth anniversary of the accession of Czech Republic to the European Union, the translation is now available on the website of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs. A video recording of Markéta and Max reciting the poem in English and Czech is also available to watch.
